People occasionally ask me how I write so many personalized songs using Suno. They imagine there must be a complicated formula or a secret prompt hidden somewhere. The truth is both simpler and more meaningful than that.
Most of the songs I create begin with a conversation.
I don’t start by thinking about rhyme schemes or musical genres. I start by asking what story deserves to be told. Every life contains moments of joy, loss, friendship, love, family, hope, and perseverance. My first goal is simply to discover the heart of that story.
Once I understand what someone wants to say, I spend time talking with ChatGPT. These aren’t isolated conversations. Over many months, our discussions have shaped a shared understanding of my philosophy of song crafting. We continually return to the same idea: the best songs are not built around clever words—they are built around genuine memories and honest emotions.
Together we explore the story from different angles. We ask what emotion should remain after the final note fades. We consider who is telling the story, what memories matter most, and what details make the song uniquely personal. Sometimes a single sentence from a conversation becomes the emotional center of an entire song.
Only after that foundation has been laid do I ask ChatGPT to help transform those ideas into lyrics. The first draft is rarely viewed as the destination. Instead, it becomes the beginning of a creative process where we shape the message until it feels authentic.
From there I create a Suno prompt that gives the AI musical direction while still allowing room for interpretation. I often generate several versions of the song, listening carefully to each one. Frequently one version captures the feeling perfectly. Occasionally I’ll borrow ideas from several generations before deciding on the final result.
Interestingly, I don’t spend a great deal of time editing inside Suno itself. By investing more thought before the music is generated—by understanding the story first—I often find that one of the generated performances already captures exactly what I hoped to hear.
This is the process I use for most of the personalized songs I create. It isn’t intended to produce perfection every time. Rather, it is designed to produce songs that feel honest, personal, and memorable.
Over time I have also developed a much more comprehensive song crafting process that explores every stage of songwriting in far greater depth. That process is ideal for people who want to become song crafters themselves or who wish to create a truly refined musical legacy. But not every song requires that level of detail.
Sometimes a heartfelt conversation, a meaningful story, thoughtful lyrics, and the remarkable capabilities of today’s AI music tools are all that’s needed to create a song that someone will treasure for years to come.
In the end, the technology is only a tool.
The story is what matters.
And every life has one worth telling.
